Variations On A Theme Of DNA

Share

On the usefulness of genetic screening as a modern medical diagnosis tool.

It is the very definition of a modern major miracle
The way genetic testing can help diagnoses clinical
Explaining symptoms physical

Human DNA has 3 billion base pairs
But we can now pick up if there’s not one there
In an important gene

A single nucleotide missing or copied wrong
When we have a look it will show up on
a genetic screen

It’s a variation on, variation on, a theme of DNA
There’s a base pair gone, or copied wrong – a gene that’s gone astray
When there’s something wrong, something wrong a screen can show the way

Be it breast cancer or muscular dystrophy / the likelihood of getting it lies in your genes
And even if yourself has nothing wrong / it can show if there’s something that may pass on

Being forearmed by being forewarned
Health service screening screaming newborns
Can prevent illness taking hold

Or if there is a distorted gene
It’s possible to supply the missing protein
Symptoms can be eased

So many illnesses this can diagnose
Even ones for many years that won’t show
or give probabilities

It’s a variation on, variation on, a theme of DNA
There’s a base pair gone, or copied wrong – a gene that’s gone astray
When there’s something wrong, something wrong a screen can show the way
